DTCA organised interactive session with Secy, Min.of of Tourism- Gangtok

The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation along with the tourism stakeholders of the state organized an interactive session with Smt. Rashmi Verma, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and Shri. Rajesh Verma, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Govt. of India at a local hotel in Gangtok today. Chief Secretary, Shri A.K.Shrivastava welcomed the esteemed guests to the state and said that such programmes and sessions benefit not just individuals but the society as a whole.
Smt. Rashmi Verma addressed the gathering and stated that her visit to Sikkim was splendid since she was in one of the most beautiful states in India. She stated that the state has a tremendous potential as a tourism spot and more focus should be given to eco-tourism and adventure tourism in the state. She asked the tourism association and other bodies in the tourism sector to promote high end tourism in the state with more focus on quality tourism rather than just numerical tourism. Her concern towards sustainable and cleaner tourism was the main focus of her address.
Shri. Rajesh Verma also addressed the gathering on a similar notion where he gave numerous ideas so as to boost tourism in Sikkim. He gave the examples of North Eastern states like Nagaland’s Horn Bill Festival and other such events which have considerably increased tourism in their respective states. He also encouraged the gathering of various tourism associations to gear up for better digital marketing which according to him will boost their stakes in tourism.
Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Shri C.Zangpo also threw some light on the tourism aspect of the state. The program was followed by an interactive session between the travel associations and the guests where the stakeholders put forwards their queries and how they can cope-up with the perils in the tourism sector. Also present in the programme was D.G cum Secretary, Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare Department Dr. K. Bhandari, Secretary, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Govt. of Sikkim Shri. C. Zangpo, Regional Director, India Tourism Shri.
