New Delhi : President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday conferred coveted Padma awards on 44 persons which included celebrities and unsung heroes who have worked for the society. In a formal ceremony in the imposing Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Mukherjee conferred Padma Vibhushan on mystic Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev and singer KJ Yesudas. Wife of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Sunder Lal Patwa received the award on his behalf. The focus of this year’s Padma awards, according to the officials in the Home Ministry, was on recognising talent of unknown and unsung heroes of the country.
The President also conferred PadmaShree Actor Sadhu Meher, transplant surgeon Mukut Minz, Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty, Folk Singer Jitendriya Haripal today.
