There seems to be no end to the woes for comedy actor Tattwa Prakash Satpathy alias Papu Pompom, who has recently landed in controversy for his disparaging remarks on Lord Jagannath and Tulsi (basil) as tomatoes were hurled at his residence at Baramunda here on Thursday.
Activists of the Hindu Sena staged the protest in front of Papu’s residence. On being informed, the Khandagiri police reached the spot, and police forces were deployed in front of Papu’s house.
In a related development on the day, the Friends Foundation Trust lodged an FIR against the comedian at the Puri Sea Beach police station. Earlier, the Jagannath Sena had also filed an FIR against Papu at the same police station.
Notably, activists of the Lulu Sena had on Wednesday thrown ink at Papu near the Jharpada flyover here when he was returning from a shooting set by his car.
It may be recalled that while performing standup comedy on stage at the closing ceremony of the Puri Beach Festival on November 28, Papu had said that Tulsi leaves over which street dogs pee everyday are used in the rituals of Lord Jagannath. He further went on to say that those who utter ‘Jai Jagannath’ are Papis (sinners).
Tension gripped the festival spot as several Lord Jagannath devotees present near the stage protested Papu’s remarks and demanded a public apology from Papu. Normalcy returned after Papu apologised for his remarks.
